We are with you every beat of your baby’s heart…
Early fetal diagnosis results in better preparation for parents and physicians caring for newborns with congenital heart disease. Children’s Heart Center’s Fetal Cardiology Program is one of the largest in the nation – we see over 2,500 patients per year. Our program is one of only five pediatric cardiology practices in the United States to receive Fetal Echocardiography Accreditation by the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine. We specialize in detection, evaluation and management of fetal heart defects prior to a baby’s birth.
Seamless Coordination of Care
Our Program encompasses the patient’s entire spectrum of care. With seamless coordination of all doctors, specialists and other caring cardiac professionals, we are able to cover a variety of needs. In order to coordinate the best in maternal and fetal care, we perform all fetal echocardiographic evaluations and follow-up studies in the perinatologists’ offices; as the perinatologist is the physician caring for both mother and fetus. A unique feature of the fetal program is organized tours of the Labor and Delivery areas, Neonatal Intensive Care Units, and Pediatric Intensive Care Units for expectant families to familiarize them with the hospital environment.
Expertise
Our Fetal Cardiology Program offers the expertise and support to make a difference in the lives of expectant parents and their babies. Dr. Ruben Acherman joined us in 2002 from The Children’s Hospital Los Angeles where he was the Director of Fetal Cardiology for eight years. Since joining Children’s Heart Center he has expanded the program by working closely with the community’s perinatologists to develop a large and complete diagnostic and treatment program. Diagnoses have ranged from hypoplastic left heart to fetal dysrhythmias and outcomes have been excellent.
